Fairy Tales and Turtles

We’re all teetering on the totter of weird weather wondering what on earth to wear. There is no planning here, just giving up and letting the wind tell us when we open the front door. Because you can’t determine the temperature by looking out the window on a sunny day, you’ve got to walk outside and live in it. And sometimes you’re surprised by 80 degrees and turtles sunning themselves on a log in winter.

As you rest on Sabbath, may you surrender your expectations about God and your neighbor. Give up trying harder and allow the Lord’s will be done. He might surprise you with good news like snow falling in summer. The fulfillment of dreams you thought were fairy tales on the shelf.

I loved that verse. I have spent a thousand days in church and more than that in the word and have glossed over. in context, this is about Paul, who “would not be dissuaded” to go to his certain death. Good stuff here…

Sabbath blessings, Shelly! I felt goosebumps when I read your words: “Give up trying harder and allow the Lord’s will be done. He might surprise you with good news like snow falling in summer. The fulfillment of dreams you thought were fairy tales on the shelf.” I have often been blessed by your words, but this is different. Through you, God has spoken straight to me this morning. One day I will tell you in person just what these words have done in me. One day I will tell you in person how much you mean to me. Much love.

I smiled when I read, “Good news like snow falling in summer.” It reminded me of one of my earliest childhood memories–waking up in the morning to snow falling in summer. Actually, it was a flurry of cottonwood fluff, blowing from the tree in the front yard. But now you’ve given new meaning to that memory. GOD can fulfill our dreams just as he can–and does–make snow in summer!
