“Anxiety is extremely contagious, but so is calm. The question becomes, Do we want to infect people with more anxiety, or heal ourselves and the people around us with calm? ~Brene Brown, The Gifts of Imperfection

I’m thinking about this as I wander around ballrooms and sit next to women who I’ve only known through a profile picture on social media sites. The next time you find yourself in an uncomfortable situation take Brene’s advice and ask yourself, “Do I have enough information to freak out and will freaking out help in this situation?

The answer is the same for all us.

No.

I’m carrying you with me in my heart this weekend as I soak up some fun with my writing friends at the Allume Conference.  I look forward to sharing how God showed up among us next week. Stay tuned.

Looking forward to hearing all about Allume, Shelly. I wish you well, especially for a calm and serene spirit as you engage with others, especially those who may be feeling anxious. 🙂 You, of course, will NOT be anxious, right?

Stay calm and carry on!!!! Just realized the name of your conference…..allume…the French verb allumer means “to light or to light up”….
so hoping this conference “lights you up”!

Lawd. Can’t believe I never bumped into you. Or maybe I did and didn’t recognize you?! I’m feeling the same….do I care enough to jump away from the me-centered thinking and exude calm?

Thank you, Shelly, for your carefully chosen quotes from Brene Brown’s book. This one gives me resolve for saying “No” to infecting others with anxiety, and “yes” to injecting calm. Her statement included a discovery for me also. When I seek to bring God’s peace to others, healing (of anxiety, doubt, fear, etc.) will take place within me as well. His peace washes over giver and recipient alike!
