Beautiful Fog

by | Oct 18, 2011 | Uncategorized

How do you know what your life will be like tomorrow? Your life is like the morning fog–it’s here a little while, then it’s gone. ~James 4:14

I wake this morning to fog suspended, hovering high above treetops.  It fills windows and I am house in balloon wafting slow in early quiet.  Beauty in what I can’t see through, like the mystery of grace.

Isn’t this most of life?  This not seeing clear on these days we walk ordinary.  These twenty-nine weeks called Ordinary Time in the liturgical calendar.  Not the glitzy, showy seasons of Advent and Easter when we put on our best, throw ourselves into the celebration.  But when mom cleans up the dirty dishes after the party and we almost forget she is there.

And suddenly she surprises us in ways we don’t expect. Unearths the holy mystery.

Like my dog walking with eye like marble, life is haze, sometimes distorted, seeing only what lies close.

When you can’t see beyond today, hold tight to the one who leads you.  Because fog lingers short, then comes brilliant, vibrant clarity.

Today, like a garden emerging from the fog, join me in finding the beauty, the holy mystery of Christ in the ordinary. Let me know how you see different today.  How does He surprise you with grace?
